JOANNA LUMLEY BATTLES TO SAVE PETER PAN HOUSE

The famous Joanna Lumley.

JM Barrie, in his memoirs published in 1904, wrote of Peter Pan:

“Our escapades in a certain Dumfries garden which was an enchanted land to me was certainly the genesis of this work.”

Joanna Lumley, the actress who recently became a hero to the Nepalese gurkhas, is now campaigning to save Moat Brae, the house in Dumfries which inspired Peter Pan.

Joanna might chain herself to the railings of Moat Brae, to prevent its demolition by a body called Loreburn Housing Association.

J M Barrie, a Scottish genius, famous worldwide.

Author J M Barrie first invented the characters in Peter Pan while playing in the gardens of Moat Brae.

Moat Brae Trust is the body trying to preserve the most famous building in Dumfries and Galloway.

The Peter Pan House

Help Save Moat Brae

"Moat Brae House was designed in 1823 for Robert Threshie of Barnbarroch, by Walter Newall, South West Scotland’s most distinguished architect.

"The house, Category B listed in 1961, is exceptionally fine – indeed of better quality than nearby A-listed houses in Castle Street, and some contemporary A-listed houses in the New Town of Edinburgh."

In 2008, Moat Brae was bought by Loreburn Housing Association.

Since then, "deliberately or at least through sheer negligence, wet and (particularly) dry rot have spread extensively, and thus the internal fabric of the house has been allowed to deteriorate dramatically.

"At no point has the local authority, though fully aware of the situation, served any repairs notice on the owners of this house.

"In May of this year, to the shock and dismay of the local community, Loreburn Housing Association announced their intention to demolish the house."

Where are the Scottish National Party in all this?

Andrew Wood hopes to be the SNP Member of Parliament for Dumfries and Galloway.

Wood spoke out after a meeting with Loreburn Housing Chief Executive Ahsan Khan and SNP candidate for the Euro elections Ian Hudgton on the future of the Moat Brae house. (Councillor says JM Barrie home fit for 'nothing but demolition ...)

Councillor Wood said it would be a “misuse of public funds” to save the house and the best solution would be to pull it down.

Our prediction: The Conservative Party will win Dumfries and Galloway.

Please email friends@moatbrae.org if you would like to become involved.

Indonesia: The Next Battlefield

Indonesian model. (discover-indo.tierranet.com/indogirls1.htm)

A few years ago, at Inside Indonesia, Kurt Biddle wrote about Indonesia - US military ties :

"The Pentagon seems to be chomping at the bit for military involvement in Indonesia.

"One of the most vocal advocates for military ties with Indonesia is Deputy Secretary of Defence Paul Wolfowitz, a US ambassador to Indonesia for three years during the Reagan administration.
"He has repeatedly argued that Washington should help Indonesia fight terrorists.

"Wolfowitz told the Far Eastern Economic Review, 'Going after Al Qaeda in Indonesia is not something that should wait until after Al Qaeda has been uprooted from Afghanistan.'

"It remains to be seen if and how the US will be involved in Indonesia, but with 600 US military 'advisers' on the ground in the neighbouring Philippines, some see Indonesia as the next battlefield."

Indonesians

In the USA and Europe, false flag terrorism is allegedly used to increase the power of the military.

In Indonesia, certain generals reportedly want to increase the already considerable powers of the military.

In Indonesia, a new Secrecy Bill could mean that journalists reporting on sensitive issues could face imprisonment or the death penalty.

(Secrecy bill threatens press freedom The Jakarta Post )

A struggle has been going on, since at least 1998, to increase the powers of the military.

In Indonesia, two members of Kopassus (Indonesia's special forces) were convicted and jailed for the stock exchange bombing, which took place in 2000.

In 2002, The Age, a major Australian newspaper, commented about the stock exchange bombing:

"Indonesian military elements were prepared to cause massive casualties and huge economic disruption in their own capital for the purposes of elite-level politics."

(Should the military be on the list of suspects? - theage.com.au)

On 7 November 2002, Tom Fawthrop, at Asia Times, reported on the Indonesian military's links to terror:

"The highly politicized Indonesian military, trained in waging terror during more than 30 years of General Suharto's dictatorship, are among the suspects in last month's Bali bombing, according to a respected Indonesian commentator."

Wimar Witoelar, former spokesman for ex-president Abdurrahman Wahid, said "the plot is probably hatched by hardline military rogues. This is certainly an excuse for a military takeover unless it is preempted."

The militant Moslem organisations Jemaah Islamiyah and Laskar Jihad both have links with Indonesian generals.

According to Australian academic Dr Greg Barton, certain Indonesian generals use the various Islamist militias for their own purposes.

Barton says (Asia Times): "In early 2000, when President Wahid sacked General Wiranto over the East Timor post-ballot massacres and began to push hard for profound reforms within the military, non-Islamist, nationalist generals joined forces with generals known to be religious hardliners to use radical Islamist militia to destabilize the Wahid administration."

Members of the Cokar, an Ambon militia, admitted they had been trained and funded by Kopassus (Asia Times).

An Indonesian

Many of Suharto's top generals remain in leadership positions.

President Yudhoyono and his two main political rivals, Prabowo and Wiranto, are all former Suharto generals.

Who carried out the Bali Bombing, which incidentally helped General Yudhoyono to come to power?

The airline manifest of Garuda has confirmed that at least two military generals from Jakarta happened to visit Bali just three days before the bombings and that they returned to Jakarta just one day before the Sari Club was blown up. (Asia Times)

The two generals were General Djaja Suparman and General Ryamizard Riyacudu.

Jakarta human-rights activist Bonar Naipospos told Asia Times Online: "General Suparman is one of the generals who was behind the extremist Jihad groups. He set up militias composed of gangsters and religious fanatics to counter student demonstrations in 1998. One of these militias, Pram Swarkasa, became the embryo of Laskar Jihad."

Bonar Naipospos commented to Asia Times Online: "I believe the military is involved in the bombing, but I fear the Bali police chief is in a difficult position and they will not follow leads to high-ranking people."

Time to Boycott Tesco?

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Tesco_mielec.jpg

1. Tesco is the world's fourth largest retailer.

In 2006, Inverness, in the UK, was branded as "Tescotown", [12][13] because well over 50p in every £1 spent on food is believed to be spent in its three Tesco stores. [14]

2. Jack Cohen founded Tesco in 1909 when he began to sell surplus groceries from a stall in the East End of London. (Tesco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Shirley, Lady Porter DBE is the daughter and heir of Jack Cohen.

In a review of the biography of Mrs Porter by Andrew Hosken, Nicholas Lezard in The Guardian described her as "...the most corrupt British political figure in living memory, with the possible exception of Robert Maxwell". [1] She retired to Israel in 1993.

3. How fresh is Tesco food?

Audrey Brown, of BBC News, (BBC NEWS Business Out-of-date food in UK supermarkets) reported:

"I saw food past its sell-by date on the fresh food counters... and it was regularly being sold.

"At Tesco, it was re-packaged and re-labelled with a new date and reduced in price, sometimes days after it should have been sold or removed from the shelves.

"A lot of the time, the counter staff treated the meat and fish we were selling with indifference and, worryingly, there were times at Tesco when they had no idea what the real sell-by date was as they had altered it so many times.

"Sometimes it was not until the food smelled bad that it was eventually thrown away."

In a programme for BBC1's Whistleblower, "counter staff at... Tesco falsify food temperature records and flout basic rules of food hygiene such as using different knives for fish, raw meat and cooked meat to prevent cross-contamination of bacteria.

"Undercover footage shows the factory floor of a major supplier of ready meals to Tesco cross-contaminated with urine and faecal matter from employees' boots, and a farm which supplies chickens to Sainsbury's where a bin of dead birds crawling with hundreds of maggots is alongside the area for live birds being reared for sale." - TV film claims Tesco and Sainsbury's stores flout hygiene rules ...

3. According to The Guardian, 31 May 2008:

The magazine Private Eye (May 2008) "identified what it said was a Tesco tax avoidance operation involving a complex web of offshore operations centred on the Swiss canton of Zug.

"These arrangements involved an English limited liability partnership (LLP) called Cheshunt Overseas.

"Cheshunt is the name of the Hertfordshire town where Tesco has its headquarters.

"The Cheshunt Overseas accounts provide grounds for believing that the structure may so far have assisted the international retailer in sheltering more than £66m in profit from UK tax." (Tesco: new claims of tax avoidance)

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Hradec_Kr%C3%A1lov%C3%A9_-_Tesco.jpg

4. According to Wikipedia (Tesco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia):

In May 2007 it was revealed that Tesco had moved the head office of its online operations to the tax haven of Switzerland.

In February 2008 a six month investigation by The Guardian revealed that Tesco has developed a complex taxation structure involving offshore bank accounts in the tax haven of the Cayman Islands.[31]

Tesco is in the process of selling its UK stores, worth an estimated £6 billion, to Cayman Island based companies set up by Tesco. These companies then lease the stores back to Tesco.

This arrangement enables Tesco to avoid an estimated £1 billion tax on profits from the property sales, and also to avoid paying any tax on continuing operation of the stores, as the rate of corporation tax in the Cayman Islands is zero.

5. In Thailand, Tesco has been criticised for aggressively pursuing critics of the company. Writer and former MP Jit Siratranont is facing up to two years in jail and a £16.4m libel damages claim for saying that Tesco was expanding aggressively at the expense of small local retailers.

Tesco served him with writs for criminal defamation and civil libel.[90]

6. Criticism of Tesco includes allegations of stifling competition due to its undeveloped "land bank",[91] pugilistically aggressive new store development without real consideration of the wishes, needs and consequences to local communities,[92] using cheap and/or child labour,[93][94] opposition to its move into the convenience sector[95] and breaching planning laws.[96]

7. It's time to close down the big supermarkets because they do more harm than good.

Walmart and Tesco are examples of big supermarkets.

"Wal-Mart may drive prices down, but it drags the quality of life for millions of people down with it.

"With hundreds of employees dependent on public assistance to meet their basic needs, American taxpayers subsidize Wal-Mart's low prices at the rate of roughly $420,750 a year for every 200-employee store by paying for low-income services...

"Wal-Mart hurts U.S. communities by undercutting local merchants and increasing urban sprawl, and its suppliers have been cited for labor and human rights violations."
- Responsible Shopper Profile: Wal-Mart:

8. "I've had a big notice in my shop window for a few weeks "the shop that Tesco cannot close" along with photos of the 50 empty shops in our town.

"There's a huge Tesco here, and the town centre is in a bad way.

"I think that small scale retail is just about dead ..." -clearwood.co.uk (Comment is free: Tesco the superweed)

Tesco is to open a third store in the town of Dumfries.

"Tesco would take about 60% of all money being spent in the town." Traders fear third Tesco's impact

9. In 2006, Felicity Lawrence wrote in the Guardian (Comment is free: Tesco the superweed):

"The trouble with weeds is that left unchecked they become invasive and strangle everything else. Tesco has spread uncontrolled with frightening speed. In some parts of the country it has 45% of the grocery market...

"Tesco... subverts the democratic process as it forces through planning permissions against community wishes; it added 2m sq ft of sales space last year alone...

"It suffocates independent shops and markets; it uses its power to squeeze its suppliers...

"The supermarket sector, with its just-in-time ordering that requires casual labour to be turned on and off like a tap, and its new packhouse industries, has been one of the most prolific creators of demand for trafficked labour."

10. "In Bangladesh young women are working for as little as 5p an hour to make clothes for Asda and Tesco while working up to 14 hours a day for weeks on end... Tesco reported annual profits of more than £2.5bn last week" - 6p a T-shirt. 30p an hour for shelling cashews. Supermarkets accused of exploiting women

Lord Milo Douglas, the Bin Ladens and Gay Affairs.

Milo worked with Action Against Hunger "and he was one of the most polite, down-to-earth and kind people one could ever hope to meet." ( death from council block)

David Harrington Angus Douglas, 12th Marquess of Queensberry, has had 8 children, including:

1. Ambrose Carey (illegitemate).

Ambrose Jonathan Carey (b. 1961), head of a British security and intelligence firm, whose half-sister Caroline Carey (b. 1959), married the late Salem bin Laden, prior head of the global Bin Laden family corporation.[3][4]

2. Sholto Francis Guy Douglas, Viscount Drumlanrig (born 1 June 1967), legitimated by decision of Lord Lyon when his parents married.

3. Lord Milo Douglas (1975-2009)

On 3 August 2009, we learnt that Lord Milo Douglas, second in line to the title of Marquess of Queensberry, had died suddenly at the age of 34.

(Tormented lord 'jumps to his death from council block'?)

Drumlanrig Castle, ancient Douglas stronghold and Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, was completed in 1691.

Milo had worked as a teacher and later as a charity worker.

His body was found on the pavement outside a nine-storey block a few miles from his home.

Reportedly, Milo had a problem with bi-polar disorder.

Reportedly, Milo had attended a dinner party the night before his death, which ended in an angry row.

Reportedly, Milo was gay.

Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas

Milo's ancestor, the homophobic and possibly gay ninth Marquess, invented the Queensberry Rules of boxing in the 19th century and began criminal proceedings against the gay Oscar Wilde.

Wilde was jailed for having a gay affair with the ninth Marquess's son - the gay Bosie, Lord Alfred Douglas.

Milo's stepsister Carrie Carey married two of Osama Bin Laden's sons - Salem Bin Laden, and after Salem died in an air crash in 1988, Khaled bin Laden.

A recent biography of Oscar Wilde claims that Wilde's trial and imprisonment was a cover up for a gay affair between the UK Prime Minister, the Earl of Rosebery, and Viscount Drumlanrig.

( Source: http://www.rainbownetwork.com/Culture/detail.asp?iData=18807&iCat=87&iChannel=15&nChannel=Culture )

The Secret Life of Oscar Wilde, by Neil McKenna, suggests that the prime minister, the Earl of Rosebery, had a gay relationship for over two years with Viscount Drumlanrig, the older brother of Wilde’s own lover, Lord Alfred Douglas.

McKenna told the Sunday Times that, “Oscar was sacrificed to save Rosebery and the Liberals.”

The book says that the Marquess of Queensbury, the father of Drumlanrig and Douglas, was so furious that both his sons were gay that he threatened to reveal the PM’s own homosexuality.

Wilde’s trial was rushed through in order to “buy off” Queensbury and save the PM’s reputation, although Queensbury later called him “a Jew nancy boy” and “that bloody bugger”.

The book also suggests that the relationship between Rosebery and Drumlanrig was instrumental to Drumlanrig being made the PM`s private secretary and eventually a Lord.

The Sunday Times quotes Philip Hoare, who has himself written a biography on Wilde, as saying that McKenna’s theory was realistic, as he believed Wilde had been a political pawn. “The Liberals saw Wilde, as it were, taking all this decadence to the suburbs. They needed to stop it.”

It also mentions Wilde’s grandson, Merlin Holland opinion that “Queensbury had lost one son to this ‘unmentionable vice’ and didn’t want another lost.”

Lord Alfred Douglas, Bosie.

Doug Ireland wrote (direland.typepad.com/direland/2005/08/index.html):

"In 1892, not long after Bosie's love affair with Wilde had begun, Drumlanrig had become the lover of Lord Rosebery, the Liberal Party politician who had been Prime Minister Gladstone's foreign secretary before becoming prime minister himself in 1894.

"Rosebery had arranged for his lover Drumlanrig to be given a peerage in 1893, so that he could sit in the House of Lords and assume a junior ministerial role.

"But the Marquis of Queensberry - whose right to sit in the Lords had been lost (and thus, his political career thwarted) when, as a Scots Peer, he'd refused to swear the oath of allegiance to Queen Victoria - took the gift of a peerage to his older son as a deliberate insult.

"He developed a white-hot anger at Rosebery and the Liberal Party elite.

"This anger became uncontrollable rage when Drumlanrig committed suicide the year before Wilde's trials to save his lover Lord Rosebery from exposure."

Treaty of Union, joining Scotland and England.

James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry was very influential in bringing about the Treaty of Union in 1707.

The same evening the 2nd Duke was signing the Act of Union, his son, the Earl of Drumlanrig, is said to have roasted a servant boy on a spit in an oven in the kitchens of his house in Edinburgh. (Cached Cached)

Salem bin Laden

Who was Salem bin Laden? (The bin Laden Family)

Quoting a French intelligence report posted by PBS Frontline, The New Yorker reports, “During the nineteen-eighties, when the Reagan administration secretly arranged for an estimated $34 million to be funneled through Saudi Arabia to the Contras in Nicaragua, [Osama’s eldest brother] Salem bin Laden aided in this cause.” [PBS Frontline, 2001; New Yorker, 11/5/2001]

According to : http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/binladen/who/family.html :

"Like his father in 1968, Salem died in a 1988 air crash...in Texas... According to one of the plane's American pilots, it had been used in October 1980 during secret Paris meetings between US and Iranian emissaries. Nothing was ever proven, but Salem bin Laden's accidental death revived some speculation that he might have been "eliminated" as an embarrassing witness."

From: http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?011112fa_FACT3

"Osama's oldest brother, Salem, by most accounts a debonair and Westernized figure, who had attended Millfield, the English boarding school, took over the family empire. Salem brought the family into the modern world; he was, one American friend says, 'as at home in London and Paris as he was in Jidda.'

"A former United States diplomat in Saudi Arabia says, 'I used to call him the playboy of the Western world.' An enthusiastic amateur rock guitarist, Salem loved to jam with bands and go disco dancing when he was in the United States on business trips, in the nineteen-seventies. He was married to an English art student, Caroline Carey, whose half brother Ambrose is the son of the Marquess of Queensberry...

"During the nineteen-eighties, when the Reagan Administration secretly arranged for an estimated thirty-four million dollars to be funnelled through Saudi Arabia to the Contras, in Nicaragua, Salem bin Laden aided in this cause, according to French intelligence."
