Is America, in 2008, like France, in 1789?

Louis XVI

Is the USA in 2008, like France in 1789?

Norman Gash, at the National Review, 14 July 1989, wrote: Reflections on the revolution - French Revolution

(Norman Gash is a former Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews)

1. According to Norman Gash, in 1789 France was the largest, wealthiest, and most powerful state in Western Europe.

In 2008, the USA is said to be the most powerful state in the world.

2. Norman Gash asks: What reason was there for revolution in France in 1789?

Gash relates that, according to Napoleon, there was revolution because the middle class wanted more power for themselves and less power for the aristocrats.

It could be argued that, in the USA, the middle classes are getting restless. They see a corrupt elite enjoying too many privileges.

Louis XVI

3. Gash points out that in France, in 1789, "the climate of opinion was rational, liberal, and optimistic, the monarchy not averse to reform, the aristocracy itself permeated by ideas of the Enlightenment."

Why then was there a bloody revolution?

Gash explains that the 'system' appeared to make reform difficult.

Edmund Burke said that "a state without the means of some change is without the means of its own conservation."

In the USA in 2008, the constitution appears not to be protecting the USA from disaster.

America's institutions seem incapable of preventing wars, discontent and hunger.

4. Gash points out that the French revolution was a long sequence of events, stretching from 1789 until 1799.

There was "an extraordinary series of political improvisations:

constitutional monarchy,

single-party rule,

dictatorship of the proletariat,

and finally military despotism."

If there are to be dramatic changes in the USA, the end result might be military despotism under an American Napoleon.

Napoleon was a fascist.

He attempted the total military domination of continental Europe.

He tried to have a New World Order, or as Gash writes "a new international order".

5. According to Gash, the French Revolution, Napoleon's Empire and the 1815 Congress of Vienna "foreshadowed the Europe of the future."

That means both good things and bad things.

Americans seeking revolution should study Europe's history.

6. Gash implies that bloody revolution was not necessary to bring about change in Europe.

Gash writes:

Even if the French Revolution had not taken place, "common sense suggests that the main lines of European evolution would have been much the same, though perhaps the pace might have been slower."

Gash lists the products of European society which would have come about either by gradual evolution or by fast and bloody revolution:

A. Liberalism based on representative institutions.

B. Nationalism based on linguistic unity.

C. The rise of the sovereign state.

D. The centralization of administrative power at the expense of provincial.

E. The increasing responsibility of government for the welfare of its subjects.

F. The ability to mobilize a whole society for war.

G. military defeats in consequence giving rise to revolution and revolution to tyranny.

H. International conflicts followed by international institutions to preserve harmony.

America is changing.

The changes will be a mixture of good and bad.

The changes will happen, even without a revolution.

French Empire 1911

7. According to Gash, the French Revolution helped to shape European society in two notable ways.

A. Force was used to bring about change. "Liberalism and reform marched behind French bayonets."

The ideas of liberalism and reform had many of their origins in England.

B. The awakening of nationalism.

Gash writes that: "ideas that march behind bayonets are rarely popular; reform at the hands of a conqueror earns little gratitude. French rule brought not only enlightenment but hardship."

It was not long before there were nationalistic revolts against the French.

In Germany, later in the century, "Bismarck exploited the German national feeling first evoked by Napoleon I."

Any attempt by an American dictator to bring about a New World Order would result in nationalist revolts.

How do Moslems vote?

Indonesian Moslems

Do Moslems vote for the Islamists?

Over 90% of Moslems, given free and fair elections and a reasonable choice of parties, vote for the secular, non-religious, democratic parties.

1. The biggest Moslem country in the world is Indonesia.

In Indonesia, the great majority of Moslems vote for the secular, democratic parties.

The top two parties are the PDI and Golkar and both are secular.

Militant Islamists usually get around 5% of the vote at most. (aangirfan: Islamic Caliphate myth)

Indonesia is the biggest moslem country in the world.

2. In Pakistan's recent elections, the sucessful parties were not Islamist.

Militant Islamists usually get around 5% of the vote, unless they are being heavily backed by the CIA. (aangirfan: Islamic Caliphate myth)

In the 2002 elections, Musharraf, then supported by the CIA, stayed in power partly with the help of Islamic groups, who reportedly had the support of the CIA.

Bilawal Zardari, son of Pakistan's President.

3. What, you may ask, about the Palestinians?

Israel built up Hamas as a way of weakening and dividing the Palestinians.

Hamas won the 2006 parliamentary elections, partly because the secular Fatah was presented as being corrupt.

Palestinians would have voted for a peaceful, honest, secular, democratic party, if they had had the choice.

4. In Egypt, in 2005, the Muslim Brotherhood gained 20% of parliamentary seats.

The Muslim Brotherhood is regarded as being a tool of the CIA and MI6.

Some Moslems, feeling a strong dislike of President Mubarak, may have been conned into voting for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Moslems are generally peaceful and friendly

5. What about Iraq? Many Sunnis boycotted the 2005 election. Shiah Islamist parties emerged as the dominant force.

But, in free and fair elections and with a good choice of parties, the outcome, it can be argued, would have been different.

6. In Saudi Arabia, in local elections in 2005, Islamists performed well.

But, no political parties were allowed in these elections.

And the Monarchy uses the Islamists to help keep themselves in power.

Reportedly the CIA and its friends aim to take over Saudi Arabia at some point in the future, in order to grab the oil.

So the CIA may be only to happy to promote the sort of militant Moslems who will cause disruptions. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,786332,00.html)

7. In Algeria, in 1991, important elections were held.

The government party was seen as being massively corrupt and massively unpopular.

Voters turned to the Islamist party as a protest vote.

8. In Morocco, the Islamists do not get many votes, except among the most desperate of the poor.

The Muslim Brotherhood, like most such organisations, is reportedly a tool of the CIA and its friends.

9. Malaysia had a General Election in March 2004.

The moderate National Front (BN) won 90.4% of all the seats in parliament.

The big loser was the Islamic party (PAS).

10. In the UK, many Moslems vote Labour.

Blackburn is the UK constituency of UK government minister Jack Straw, who is of Jewish origin.

In the 2005 general Election, many Moslem voters were persuaded to vote for the Labour Party's Jack Straw.

One voter of Pakistani origin told The Independent that Labour kept its hold through the mosque committee. "It is 100 per cent Labour. They control the mosque. They frighten the people."

Moslem Party Parade in Indonesia

11. Reportedly the CIA and its friends put the Ayatollahs into power in Iran.

This prevented Iran from being a secular democracy.

12. Afghanistan was a reasonably peaceful place until the CIA and its friends began to finance and train the Islamist extremists.

Americanisation means the destruction of pretty gardens and houses and their replacement with ugly concrete structures.

Americanisation means crime, violence and unhappy children.

Americanisation means that beautiful old cultures are torn down and replaced with malls where you can buy McDonalds or watch a film about madness, mayhem and murder.

Americanisation means control by the military, the drug mafias and the big corporations.

When people try to resist Americanisation they find that they are subjected to false-flag terrorism and rigged elections.

"There are no people outdoors anymore—no kids on bikes, no neighbors talking over fences, no old men sitting on porches."

According to Gallup, 1957 was the happiest year ever in the USA.

After that, it was all downhill.

Bill Bryson has written about the destruction of pretty towns and farms in the USA.

Bill Bryson: The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid (2006)

1. American Farms destroyed

Bill Bryson writes: "I was born into a state that had two hundred thousand farms. Today the number is less than half that and falling...

"Most small towns in Iowa have pretty well died.

"Drive anywhere in the state these days and what you see are empty towns, empty roads, collapsing barns, boarded farmhouses."

Bigger farms make more money.

2. Americans' worship of money.

Bill Bryson describes the Americans' worship of mammon in the years after 1957.

"We were entering a world where things were done because they offered a better return, not a better world.

"People were wealthier than ever before, but life somehow didn’t seem as much fun...

"Women increasingly went out to work..."

3. Americans become more dumb and more criminal.

Bill Bryson writes: "Juvenile crime continued to rise and the education system seemed to be falling apart.

"The most popular nonfiction book of 1957 was an attack on American education standards called Why Johnny Can’t Read..."

"Television got itself into a terrible scandal when it was revealed that many of the game shows were rigged."

Can of US Cola in the West Bank. Picture taken by Justin McIntosh, August 2004.

4. American Towns destroyed

Bill Bryson describes what happened to Des Moines as the big corporations took over.

"Now we would be able to dine at the same restaurants, eat the same fast foods, wear the same clothes, direct visitors to the same motel beds as people in California and New York and Florida.

"Des Moines would be exactly like everywhere else...

"Often now along streets like Grand and University avenues the old houses were bulldozed to splinters...

"Two stately Victorian houses across from Tech High School on Grand had become sudden vague memories.

"The old downtown movie palaces were among the first to go.

"Bishop’s, our beloved cafeteria, closed about the same time...

"The Register ... which once truly was the pride of Iowa, got taken over by the Gannett organization three years later. Today it is, well, not what it was...

"My peerless Little League park, with its grandstand and press box, was torn down...

"There are no people outdoors anymore—no kids on bikes, no neighbors talking over fences, no old men sitting on porches.

"Everyone is indoors.

"All the downtown stores went one by one...

"Then somebody got mugged or saw a disturbed homeless person or something, and hardly anybody went downtown after dark after that, and most of the rest of the restaurants and nightspots closed.

"In the ultimate indignity, even the bus station moved out...

What was said on Corfu

Posted to Flickr as Metzes. Author Unai Guerra

Back in August, we had an interesting meze dinner at the Taverna A.

You probably know this place, which is in a small bay on the north coast of Corfu.

Eleni produced crispy courgettes, prawn saganaki, stifado and lots of other tasty things to go with the red wine.

We said our 'hellos' to Rupert, George and all the others. We thought we recognised Lord W. and Ben S.

As we supped our humus, an interesting question was asked.

"How come," asked Peter, "that planet Earth got all the good stuff?"

"What do you mean?" asked Elizabeth.

"Aluminium?" asked Mr D.

"What I mean," said Peter, "is why has the Earth got just the right amount of sulphur, phosphorous and so on to make living things?"

"And just the right amount of heat and light," said George.

"And the water," added Rupert, as he stuck his fork into some octopus like thing. "The Earth has water."

"And the other planets just don't have the right stuff," said Peter.

"It's as if there was some kind of intelligence involved," said Elizabeth.

"The really big question," said Mr P, "is how the chemicals became life?"

"There's a lot we don't know," said Andrew.

"Babies," said Elizabeth. "When do they suddenly become conscious? Maybe their consciousness exists outside their bodies."

"I've thought about that," said Mr D. "The Earth has been around for a few billion years. But homo erectus only appeared about one or two million years ago. So where was consciousness before men came along?"

Map from www.naval-history.net/WW2RN20-194406.htm

Operation Neptune was spectacular.

It was the cross-Channel crossing phase of Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy in 1944.

About 6,000 ships were involved in Neptune.

The biggest threat to this armada came from mines.

At the front of the armada were 287 mine sweepers whose job was to clear the way for the ships behind them.

Next came 138 warships whose job was to bombard the German beach defences in Normandy.

Behind them were the troop carrying ships, protected by frigates and corvettes.

Operation Fortitude was the codename for the deception operations used by the Allied force in connection with the Normandy landings.

One of the major reasons for the success of Operation Neptune was that the allies tricked the Nazis into thinking that the invasion forces would land in the area around Calais rather than in Normandy. ( D-Day: Operation Overlord - Features on thehistorychannel.co.uk)

The allies carried out a number of deception operations involving the creation of fake armies, the sending of fake radio traffic, the delivery of fake spy reports and the production of fake security plans.

Tanks, trucks and armour were made out of inflatable rubber and plywood.

Before D-Day, Allied bombing raids were twice as heavy in Calais as in Normandy.

Mine sweepers cleared shipping lanes near Calais.

Rubber paratroopers were landed near Calais to confuse the Germans.

The classic soldier and politician

Picasso - US soldiers massacre Korean women and children

President Truman was a soldier and he was the US president in 1950 when hundreds of Korean refugees, mostly women, children and old men, were massacred by US soldiers at No Gun Ri.

Franklin Pierce was a general and a President of the USA. He was in favour of slavery. (Cached)

King Richard the Lionheart massacred thousands of Muslim prisoners at Acre in 1191. Muslims, Jews and Christians were brutally massacred by the Christian Crusaders.

Not all Christian soldiers make good rulers.

Now, who is the classic soldier and politician?

Cromwell - dictator of Britain from 1653-58

Oliver Cromwell was the typical soldier-politician.

"During his lifetime, some tracts painted him as a hypocrite motivated by power — for example, The Machiavilian Cromwell and The Juglers Discovered.[84] " (Oliver Cromwell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

Oliver Cromwell's grandfather was Sir henry Cromwell whose second wife died after a long and unpleasant illness.

"Her death was attributed by local folk to witchcraft.

"An elderly couple from Warboys and their daughter were accused and in circumstances of extreme barbarity were tortured, condemned and executed." (Queens' College Record 2001 - Cromwell Family)

At the siege of Drogheda in September 1649, Oliver Cromwell massacred nearly 3,500 people, including civilians, after the town's capture.[29]

Drogheda in Ireland, 1649.

At the Siege of Wexford in October, another massacre took place, with up to 1,500 civilians murdered by Cromwell's men.[30]

At Drogheda, a group of defenders barricaded themselves in Millmount Fort. They negotiated a surrender, but were then disarmed and killed.

Cromwell sent some of the Irish to the West Indies.

Sir William Petty wrote in his The Political Anatomy of Ireland (1672) (Politics.ie • View topic - Oliver Cromwell ...):

"Widows and orphans... were kidnapped and transported by the slave trading merchants of Bristol..."

From the site Politics.ie • View topic - Oliver Cromwell was a Pimp and Child ..., we learn:

"Cromwell's puritan sensibilities did not hinder him from jumping to supply the colonists... and making a good profit to boot.

"A Captain John Vernon, for example, was employed by the Commissioners for Ireland to kidnap 250 Irish girls around twelve years of age and transport them to Barbados...

"It's estimated that tens of thousands of Irish children, both boys and girls, were kidnapped to supply this vile trade."

In 1661, Cromwell's corpse was removed from Westminster Abbey and then dangled from a gibbet at Tyburn. His head was displayed on a spike for 20 years.

Scotland - a thousand more hydro-electric sites may be built

Scotland has oil (at least half the oil is still to come) and it has wind and wave power.

And, more than 1000 new hydro-electric power stations may be built in Scotland in the next few years years according to Scottish Government advisers. ( Scotland may have a thousand more hydro sites)

Above Loch Ness, the £150m Glendoe hydro-electric scheme is nearing completion.

Scottish and Southern Energy's Glendoe project will be capable of generating 100mw of power, enough to power Glasgow.

Glendoe will be the second largest hydro scheme out of the 80 already in Scotland.

Most were built in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The Scottish Government aims to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

Churchill and an alliance with Hitler?

The BBC, on 31 August 2008, tells us about an Amateur UK diplomat who sought a Nazi pact.

And the Telegraph tells us that Lord Halifax tried to negotiate peace with the Nazis.

According to Louis Kilzer, in 'Churchill's Deception' (1994), Churchill, in 1932, considered forming an alliance with Hitler.

According to Kilzer, Churchill was in Munich in 1932 and there he met Ernst Hanfstaengl, who worked for Hitler.

Reportedly, Churchill said to Hanfstaengl, "How does your chief feel about an alliance between your country, France and England?" (Page 112, Churchill's Deception).

Kilzer's source is Hanfstaengl (War - The Churchill Centre).

According to an item at the Sydney Morning Herald, "In April 1932, Hanfstaengl set up a meeting between Hitler and Winston Churchill in a Munich hotel, but Hitler pulled out at the last moment, dismissing Churchill, who was then a backbencher, as a nobody." ( The strange, secret tale of Hitler's piano man - World - smh.com.au)

Frederick Winterbotham, head of air intelligence for MI6, wrote: "From my personal meetings with Hitler I learned about his basic belief that the only hope for an ordered world was that it should be ruled by three super powers, the British Empire, the Greater Americas and the new German Reich." (Quoted by Kilzer, page 117).

The problem for Hitler was that Churchill was reluctant to allow Germany to dominate continental Europe.

Hanfstaengl and Hitler

How close was Hanfstaengl to Hitler?

"For much of the 1920s, Hanfstaengel introduced Hitler to Munich high-society and helped polish his image. He also helped to finance the publication of Hitler's Mein Kampf. Hitler was the godfather of Hanfstaengl's son Egon. Hanfstaengl wrote both Brownshirt and Hitler Youth and, he later claimed, devised the chant 'Sieg Heil'". (Ernst Hanfstaengl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Hanfstaengl wrote Hitler: The Missing Years (London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1957. Arcade Publishing, reprint 1994 ISBN 1-55970-278-8)

He also wrote Unheard Witness (1957) about his experiences.

Sarah Palin - friend of the oil industry

Sarah Palin - friend of the oil companies and extreme conservatives.

1. According to Wikipedia (Sarah Palin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), Sarah Palin, John McCain's running mate, strongly supports drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)[64]

Palin believes global warming is not manmade [65]

Palin opposes Obama's call for a windfall tax on oil companies. [66][22][24][67]

In May 2008, Palin objected to the decision of Dirk Kempthorne, the Republican United States Secretary of the Interior, to list polar bears as an endangered species. She threatened a lawsuit to stop the listing amid fears that it would hurt oil and gas development in the bears' habitat off Alaska's northern and northwestern coasts. .[82]

Palin's husband, Todd Palin,[82] worked for the energy corporation British Petroleum at an oil field on Alaska's North Slope[83]

2. Palin has stated that creationism does not need to be part of the school curriculum. .[76]

3. She supported a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny benefits to homosexual couples.[77]

Obama Speech, 28 August 2008

Obama's Speech:

"John McCain has voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time...

"In Washington, they call this the 'Ownership Society,' but what it really means is that you're on your own. Out of work? Tough luck, you're on your own. No health care? The market will fix it. You're on your own. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, even if you don't have boots. You are on your own...

"We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was president...when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of go down $2,000, like it has under George Bush...

"I'll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy -- wind power, and solar power (OTCBB:SOPW) , and the next generation of biofuels...

"If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. If you don't, you'll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves...

"I'll pay for every dime: by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens that don't help America grow...

"While Senator McCain was turning his sights to Iraq just days after 9/11, I stood up and opposed this war..."

The US government tried to sink the USS Liberty?

It would appear that it was both Israel and the USA that tried to sink the USS Liberty in 1967.

The objective of this false flag operation was to provide an excuse to attack Egypt.

The following appeared in MILITARY HISTORY BOOK REVIEW MH-122 December 2003

"President Lyndon B. Johnson and some key officials, seeing the increasingly Soviet-leaning Egyptian President Gamel Abdel Nasser as a threat, made secret arrangements to help Israel in its coming June offensive with the intention of toppling Nasser.

"As part of Operation Cyanide, USS LIBERTY was sent to operate off the Sinai coast, where it was to be sunk with all hands by unmarked Israeli aircraft and torpedo boats, after which the United States would blame the attack on Egypt and launch carrier airstrikes against Cairo...

"The stubborn refusal of LIBERTY'S crew to die or let their ship sink after 75 minutes of air and sea attack - in spite of two American carrier sorties to aid her being inexplicably called back - led to the cancellation of Operation Cyanide, Israel's apology and offer of restitution for a 'tragic mistake,' the Johnson Administration's swift acceptance of that explanation and an equally quick, reassuring 'hot line' telephone call to Soviet premierAlexei Kosygin." -

Information about Operation Cyanide has been uncovered by former BBC investigative journalist Peter Hounam. Allegedly, the American plan was to sink the Liberty and blame Russia and Egypt.

According to an article in American free Press, "It now it appears that American political, intelligence and military persons played a key role in setting up the Liberty...The plan... was to sink the defenseless, unarmed American ship sailing in international waters off the coast of Egypt. The Soviets and their Arab allies (in particular Egypt) would then be blamed for the event.” - American Free Press , Liberty Attack Part Of Grand Scheme

Child Marriages

The Marriage Contract by William Hogarth

Child marriage has been prevalent in many cultures throughout human history.

In 16th Century England, 13 year-old Elisabeth Ramsbotham complained that her 11 year-old husband, John Bridge, had not yet deflowered her. ( Thomas Mann's Death in Venice)

Saudi Arabia is in the news because of child marriages.

In Saudi Arabia, "An 11-year-old boy gave out invitations to his classmates for a big event his family was planning this summer - and it wasn't his birthday party.

"It was his wedding to a 10-year-old cousin...

Clerics and others ... say such unions are harmful to the children and trivialise the institution of marriage." - Gulfnews: Saudi activists and clerics demand end to child marriage

A Saudi Arabian court is to rule next month on the divorce of an eight-year-old girl from a man in his fifties.

"The girl, who still does not know she is married, lives with her parents in the town of Unayzah, 135 miles north of the capital Riyadh. The marriage had been arranged in secret by her father.

"She is preparing to start the new year at primary school in the town, which is located in the conservative Najd region of the country - the spiritual homeland of the Islamist Wahhabi movement that has long dominated the kingdom.

"According to the Arabic-language newspaper Al-Watan, which reported the case, the divorce suit has been filed by the girl's mother." - Saudi Arabian girl, 8, seeks divorce
